I"m a long time Tolkien fan and I remember when cast lists were being drawn up on USENET five years ago. I don"t think any of my cast list made it. I felt that the Shire was too rustic. The first half was a little too lose with the book for my taste, but the second half was wonderful. The Balrog will be in my nightmares for a while. The story does seem to move slow. It is definitely worth the big screen and I will spend a lot of time pausing the video to look at the background effects, which looked amazing in the small amount of screen time they got.

What can i say but incredible? beautifully done, absolutely wonderful to see a piece of work prepared so well. while not entirely true to the text of the novel, it was true to the spirit of the novel. the book was basically transformed into a screenplay - what had to be discarded was, and what was kept was great. it was a little disappointing to see some things left out, and a few things were just glazed over (the weak point of the film) but it was fantastic nonetheless. DEFINITELY worth it.

In three hours we get to see a very impressive look at what Middle earth must look like. Peter Jackson has done an incredible job of bringing to the screen the emotions I had felt while reading the book. The characters may or may not be what you"ve imagined, but they really look fantastic for LOTR-fans as well as movie-fanatics. There are, in my opinion, no essential parts of the book missing on screen and that must have been hard to do, since the book is very descriptive. People who have not read the book might be at a slight disadvantage while watching the film, but all the more reason to read the book as well. It will only deepen the characters even more for them, but even without that the film will be great to watch too. The movie leaves the audience with the desire to see the other movies and after watching a three hour movie that has to be a great compliment to all concerned. Great scenes, excellent acting, powerful music. No adaption of LOTR could have been better.
